“Hunted by The Sky” is a fantasy novel by Tanaz Bhathena. This is a magical, historical fiction book; and first of three in the series “The Wrath of Ambar”. This book is set in a place called Swapnalok (Swapna and lok are Hindi words for dream and world respectively), which is divided into places called Ambar, Jwala, Prithvi, and Samundra. These magical realms are the fictional place, where the incidents in this book take place. Also, there are many mythological references in it. The protagonist in this series is a female character named Gul. This is a thrilling beginning of a new series.

In the region of King Lohar of Ambar, a prophecy is made referring that; a girl with a star mark will demise the king, whose power will be unknown to all. Since then, the king of Ambar ordered the sky warriors to kill every girl with the mark. Gul was one of the girls with a star mark on her arm. Her parents believed that she is the girl from the prophecy. The sky warriors had killed her parents, but her mother’s magic saved her from them. Then, Gul joined a group of girls like her, with a star mark on them. Gul with them made a plan to fulfil the prophecy when she turned 16.

The story follows another character named Cavas, a non-magi boy. Cavas works in the palace stable. Cavas’ father is suffering from a lethal disease. So, Cavas is working for a man, Latif giving him information about the palace instead of which he gets the medicines which are keeping his father alive. Is Gul really the one from the prophecy? ; What is the secret Cavas’ father keeping from him? ; Will Gul succeeds in her task? , To understand the answers to these questions you’ve to read the book.

In this book, different characters narrate the story. Here mostly Gul and Cavas narrate the story. There’re many secrets in this book which are going to be unveiled in the next book. Strong female characters and exhilarating fantasy in this book are brilliant. Bhathena’s writing style is admirable and the character development in this book is outstanding. Also, there are some astonishing revelations in this book too.

I’ll rate this book B and recommend that if you’re looking for a fantasy book, then it is the one you should go with.
