“The Martian” is a science fiction novel written by Andy Weir. The title of this book refers to someone from mars. This book is set in future yet it seems very realistic. The cover of this book shows an astronaut in mars who is blowing away by a storm. The same happens in the book; Mark Watney, an astronaut was separated from his crew in a storm. The book then tells us a realistic, thrilling and exciting story of bringing him home. This book was also adapted as a motion picture featuring Martt Damon as Mark Watney.

This book starts with a log which Mark writes each day in mars to describe his day. Mark was separated from his crew in a storm. His crew thought that he is dead and moved toward Earth. However, he was still alive but in a critical condition. He has figured that the next Mars mission is after 4 years; so he has to survive till then. But, he has food and other necessary stuff that doesn’t last more than six months. Mark was a botanist and engineer, and using his skills he started to make this impossible survival possible.

In the same time, Venkat Kapoor a scientist on Earth was trying to contact him. There are many twists and turns in the plot. Will Watney return home? ; Will Venkat succeeds in contacting Watney? ; How will Mark last his necessary stuff till the required time? : To know the answers to these questions you’ve to read this book.

“The Martian” is a fast-paced, unique, thrilling and exhilarating novel. Although, seldom the characters appear rather annoying; however, the unique and thrilling concept of this book will make you not putting it down. The writing is a bit annoying but fast-paced and thrilling, too. There’re many educational values in this book, too. It’ll describe various uses of duct tape (kidding). Actually, it’ll describe some technical and scientific stuff, which are extremely exciting. This story is of friendship, sacrifice and hope. Also, it has some humorous jokes too.

I’ll rate this book A- and suggest that if you’re looking for a science fiction novel then this is a must-read.
