Ready Player One is a fantasy,
sci-fi novel written by Ernest Cline. The story of this novel is set in the
future; when most of the people on the planet live in a virtual reality called
the Oasis. This was the debut novel of Ernest Cline and he has written this
novel very well. There are many references of 80’s movies, TV series and video
games in this novel but it is not necessary to watch all this movies
and TV series before reading this novel; but if you haven’t watched any of these
movies or know any of these video games you can’t be able to understand these
references. This novel is based on a fictional video game but it is a must-read
everyone either who loves video games or who doesn’t like any of them.
PLOT
SUMMARY: In 2045 people have abounded the
reality and started living in a virtual reality called The Oasis. This virtual
reality was created by James Halliday. In 2040 when Halliday dies, he
reveals that there are three hidden keys in the Oasis and the one who will find
these keys and the Easter egg could win a billion dollars and can own the
Oasis. The technology of the Oasis was the most advance technology in the
earth. So, everyone in the Oasis started to hunt for the egg. The hunt
continues for the next five years but nobody was been able to find any of the
keys. To know what happened to the keys and the Easter egg you have to read the
book.
The book mainly focuses on the character of a teenage boy Wade Watts. Wade is an 18-year-old boy who spends most of his time in the Oasis with his old friend Aech whom he hasn’t met in person. The character development is one of the best things in this book. Another character in this novel who is a negative one is Nolan Sorrento and his character is written very brilliantly. All these characters are written very well.
Although, seldom this book becomes a bit bland however the adventure and thrill in it are unputdownable. The unique concept in this book is very exciting and about ten years
after this book has published most of the youngster are playing video games
like PUBG or Free fire which are a bit similar to the Oasis. Another best thing
in this novel was the adventure in the novel, after the first 50 pages this book
mostly focuses on the mission of Wade Watts and his friends to reach the egg.
Also, there are some awful movements for you in the book. This book is also adapted as a movie in 2018 directed by Steven Spielberg.
MY
RATINGS: I will rate this book B and suggest that if you want to read science fiction and fantasy the novel then just grab this book and read once.
